Trainee Counsellor Placements
Join True Butterflies and help transform lives.
True Butterflies is a survivor-led charity supporting children, young people, adults, and families affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence across Cornwall. We provide trauma-informed, person-centred support that empowers individuals to rebuild confidence, resilience, and hope.
We are pleased to offer student counselling placements to trainee counsellors who are looking to develop their skills within a supportive and rewarding environment and are presently studying counselling and are fit to practice.
About the Placement
As a Trainee Counsellor, you will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced team, providing therapeutic support to individuals affected by trauma. You will gain valuable experience working within a specialist domestic abuse charity while developing your clinical practice in a safe, well-supported setting.

Applicants We're Looking For Should:

Be enrolled on a recognised counselling or psychotherapy qualification.

Be working towards placement hours required by their training provider.

Have a warm, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.

Be committed to person-centred, ethical practice.

Understand the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

Be able to commit to regular placement sessions each week.
An understanding of trauma-informed practice or domestic abuse is desirable, but not essential, as training and support will be provided.

Placements are available from our support hub in Truro, with opportunities for both face-to-face and community-based support in other areas.
