About us

Metamorphosis Academy, is a part of the True Butterflies Foundation.

Supporting, helping to rebuild and empowering individuals to move forward after the trauma of domestic abuse.

We are a charity that supports individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, to help them process what has happened, support their journey and empower them to move forward.

We are excited to present a new chapter of our support, specifically for children affected by abuse.

Children leaving mainstream school due to abuse, can have severe and lasting negative impacts on their mental and physical health, academic performance and overall, wellbeing.

Experiencing abuse can impact many areas of a child’s life. It has a huge impact on their mental health and can cause anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health issues.

It effects their academic performances by making concentrating difficult, decreasing motivation and declines in academic achievements and grades.

A child can also suffer with social and emotional development, by withdrawing, difficulty in forming friendships and finding emotional regulation.

We can also see signs of the effects of abuse in their physical health, through injuries, chronic pain, and other health problems and complications.

Schools have a legal duty to protect children from harm and to ensure a safe learning environment.

We understand the pressures and complications this can put on a mainstream school and the financial and staff responsibilities this can have.

The Metamorphosis academy will be offering educational sessions, encompassed with the person-centred care and time, to help children that are either home schooled or in part time education due to the impact of trauma. Our support will address educational needs, emotional support and therapeutic work to help them process what has happened and move forward free from the effects of domestic abuse. We can also offer support when the time is right for them to be integrated back into mainstream education if they wish or plan in alternative education that works for them. The support focuses on preventing exclusion but offering a support provision making it a smoother process for students.

We work with many organisations and schools in the Southwest and pride ourselves on working together to provide the best appropriate support for each child we work with.
